                            Macy’s Day Parade
As the end of November approaches, so does that very palette pleasing last Thursday of the month we all know of as Thanksgiving. As it draws near, it is again time for us to reflect on the meaning of the holiday. At Clutch Bags NY we feel that gratitude, appreciation and thanks are in order as well.
When living in NYC, one can easily forget what there is to be thankful for. Let’s be honest here. As a New Yorker living in the city, the smelly streets, cramped subway cars, and overpriced apartments can become annoyingly overwhelming most of the time which can make it difficult to appreciate. The big city lights do not excite a New Yorker like they might excite the city’s tourists; which at times leaves the tourists standing still on a corner that happens to completely block your path. This over-populated, highly vibrant, and constantly moving city can feel like a big drag sometimes. However, we have to keep reminding ourselves why we live here by asking, “why is it that people want to visit THIS city?â€Â Continue reading

Lately, Â Hollywood seems to be giving off a sense of nostalgia for the cinematic Golden Age. This was a time when movies moved out of the realm of black and white, silent images to technicolor talking pictures. Hollywood expresses this nostalgia through the gowns that grace the Red Carpet, through the recent releases of 20th-Century-movie-remakes, and through movies that portray the lives of some of the Golden Age’s most influential people.
If you look back at the Oscar’s 2013 Red Carpet, you’ll see how Anne Hathaway channels Audrey Hepburn’s 1954 Academy Awards look. Anne, like Audrey, is wearing a pale-colored, chest-concealing gown. Though Anne’s hair was short because of her role in Les Miserables, she chose to brush her bangs in front of her forehead, the same way Audrey did. To top off the look, Anne decorated her neck in a Tiffany & Co. necklace. Personally, I thought the look was good for Anne and I felt that she expressed an appreciation for a time (and a person) that deeply affected film history. Continue reading

Oh, Mothers, Mothers everywhere! Â How we do love you and what you wear!
Oh, yes, how true it is.  I believe this to be the perfect time of year for us at Clutch Bags NY to pay tribute to your mom and give her credit for what she has shared with you in terms of traditions, manners and fashion.  Have you ever thought about where your taste or sense of fashion has sprung from?  Or who has influenced it?  Have you ever thought about why you like to wear, look or touch certain handbags or fabrics?  Quite possibly, your fashion sensibility has been influenced by your mother.  Remember  when you were just a wee one and you were not able to even dress yourself?  Who dressed you?  And then, when you were able to pick out certain items of clothing to put on and decided that you could dress yourself at the age of 3, who was there to guide you?  Hands down, it was most likely your mom.  Whether you were watching her coordinate her shoes to her handbag, or helping her find the right earrings for the dress, you were in the vicinity to be influenced by her taste and her style.
Now, some of you I am sure are cringing, thinking that you cannot possibly have been influenced by your mom’s polyester pantsuits or yellow go-go boots. Â Continue reading
