Clutch Bags Spotlight: Tippi Hedren

alfred_hitchcockIn the last Clutch Bags NY blog post, I wrote about Hollywood’s love for biographical movies that retell the stories of influential people who, maybe, the public didn’t know too much about. Lately, it seems that Alfred Hitchcock has been thrown back into the spotlight. But not because of his significant role in the development of the motion picture. Instead, in the releasing of the movies ‘Hitchcock’ and ‘The Girl’, the audience is given a disturbingly odd portrayal of the famed director.

As mentioned before,  March is National Women’s Month and Tippi Hedren is definitely a woman who emphasizes a tenacity and tolerance that the Clutch Bags NY team finds admirable. So in the spirit of celebrating women, we believe that Tippi should have her story told.

You may know her as Melanie Griffith‘s mother. Or you may even know her as yet another blonde bombshell who rejected the unwanted advances of Alfred Hitchcock.

Clutch Bags: “Then” is the New “Now”

Lately,  Hollywood seems to be giving off a sense of nostalgia for the cinematic Golden Age. This was a time when movies moved out of the realm of black and white, silent images to technicolor talking pictures. Hollywood expresses this nostalgia through the gowns that grace the Red Carpet, through the recent releases of 20th-Century-movie-remakes, and through movies that portray the lives of some of the Golden Age’s most influential people.

Screen Shot 2013-03-15 at 11.03.01 AMIf you look back at the Oscar’s 2013 Red Carpet, you’ll see how Anne Hathaway channels Audrey Hepburn’s 1954 Academy Awards look. Anne, like Audrey, is wearing a pale-colored, chest-concealing gown. Though Anne’s hair was short because of her role in Les Miserables, she chose to brush her bangs in front of her forehead, the same way Audrey did. To top off the look, Anne decorated her neck in a Tiffany & Co. necklace. Personally, I thought the look was good for Anne and I felt that she expressed an appreciation for a time (and a person) that deeply affected film history. Continue reading

Clutch Bags says “Diamonds Aren’t a Girl’s Only Friend”

y1 You know how they say “Dog is man’s best friend”? Well, a woman’s best friend is her accessories. Women turn to accessories for the same reason they turn to their gal pals: for comfort. No matter how good you’re told you look in that little black dress, you won’t feel it until the dress is complimented with some elegant earrings, a nifty necklace, or a handsome handbag. You know, some type of accessory that really pulls the look together. That makes you feel a little more comfortable in going out in that formfitting dress.

If you’re lucky, you have a lot of accessories and the luxury of being picky about which “bestie” to go to for reassurance. However, if you’re like me–always trying to figure out which accessories in your closet are the right ones at the moment to work with your look– remember, there is always room to beef up your network of handbags and jewelry.  My advice to you is to invest in a few great accessories that will work throughout the day for you.

What I consider to be my closest friend in my closet is the Clutch black suede lingerie bag. It never lets me down! This Clutch bag is deep, practical, and I can take it anywhere: Continue reading

Mail Bag as photographed by Demetrius Fordham

Clutch Bags Mail Bag

Wow!  How Urban New York is this image of a gorgeous Alvin Ailey  dancer twirling with the white leather shoulder bag from Clutch Bags?

When I asked Demetrius Fordham if he wanted to shoot his choice of a bag from the Clutch Bags Collection, he knew exactly  how he was going to approach it. I have to admit as well, I know D’s style of photography, so I could almost picture this image in my head before he captured it. Demetrius is a photographer with vision, perseverence and talent.
