You know how they say “Dog is man’s best friend”? Well, a woman’s best friend is her accessories. Women turn to accessories for the same reason they turn to their gal pals: for comfort. No matter how good you’re told you look in that little black dress, you won’t feel it until the dress is complimented with some elegant earrings, a nifty necklace, or a handsome handbag. You know, some type of accessory that really pulls the look together. That makes you feel a little more comfortable in going out in that formfitting dress.
If you’re lucky, you have a lot of accessories and the luxury of being picky about which “bestie” to go to for reassurance. However, if you’re like me–always trying to figure out which accessories in your closet are the right ones at the moment to work with your look– remember, there is always room to beef up your network of handbags and jewelry. My advice to you is to invest in a few great accessories that will work throughout the day for you.
What I consider to be my closest friend in my closet is the Clutch black suede lingerie bag. It never lets me down! This Clutch bag is deep, practical, and I can take it anywhere:
- To work because it can fit my ipad
- To the movies because it can hide the store-bought candy and soda that I smuggle into the theater
- And even on a wintry night out with the girls because it can carry my makeup, hairbrush, hat, and mittens
Though my clutch bag doesn’t call attention to my manicured nails the way a sparkling ring does or decorate my ears the way diamond earrings do, it does have the ability to hold everything I will need, might need, and don’t need. It’s this generous ability that gives me comfort in facing the unpredictable events that the day has in store for me. If on my long train ride home from Battery Park City to the Upper East Side I realize that I’m really hungry, it’s all right because I have almonds and cranberries in my bag! If I go out for dinner to a new place and the restaurant is fancier than I had expected, it’s okay because my handbag is stylish enough to fit right in!
All I’m saying is it doesn’t hurt to be a little prepared for life’s surprises. This preparation can be in the form of a supportive friend when you need a shoulder to learn on; a chunky vintage bracelet when you need to dress-up an outfit; or even a useful handbag when you’re not quite sure what you need.
