As the end of November approaches, so does that very palette pleasing last Thursday of the month we all  know of as Thanksgiving.  As it draws near, it is again time for us to reflect on the meaning of the holiday.  At Clutch Bags NY we feel that  gratitude, appreciation and thanks are in order as well.

When living in NYC, one can easily forget what there is to be thankful for.  Let’s be honest here. As a New Yorker living in the city, the smelly streets, cramped subway cars, and overpriced apartments can become annoyingly overwhelming most of the time which can make it difficult to appreciate.  The big city lights do not excite a New Yorker like they might excite the city’s tourists; which at times leaves the tourists standing still on a corner that happens to completely block  your path.  This over-populated, highly vibrant, and constantly moving city can feel like a big drag sometimes.  However, we have to keep  reminding ourselves why we live here by asking, “why is it that  people want to visit  THIS city?”  Continue reading →

It’s getting cold outside on the Battery near 1 World Trade

 

As a native New Yorker, I have experienced my fair share of seasons in this fantastic city of ours.  Admittedly,  I do resist change, especially when out of nowhere, the blistering heat is over ridden by insufferably gelid conditions.  However, the game changer for this temperature change are  the  many  activities that are available in the city during the seasons where I don’t necessarily want to be out and about!  Although it is becoming colder, that never stops a true New Yorker from seeking an adventure. I also find that being a  New Yorker comes with its share of  responsibilities, one of which is to show those living in small towns that there is more to do in our city during the cold season than just going to the movies.  Not to worry my fellow homebodies, I’ve got just the activities that will get you outside; even when it feels like it is too cold for comfort. It’s that time of year again and you either love it or you hate it. The start of September means a lot of different things for different people. It could be the inevitable end of a great Summer, the anticipated arrival of a calm Fall, or the stress or excitement of going back to school or work. Whatever it is, we’re all going through it and there’s no need to be glum about it!

Yup, the degrees are steadily decreasing and what was once a cool Summer breeze is starting to feel a little biting. In her efforts to keep the American economy stimulated, her handbags are made in a factory in the Garment District of New York City. In working for various fashion publications, Laura found that sometimes the popular trends were not what women really wanted over time. So in 2001 she started Clutch Bags NY. Drawing on her classic New England sensibility and inherited Italian aesthetic, Laura created a line of designer handbags with a clean, classic and utilitarian style. According to Laura, “We take functional ideas and make them our own. Our designs will outlast any trend or fad. There are many things that I feel I cannot live without: my cell phone, my IPod, and my denim Pencil Bag from Clutch Bags NY.I like to think of this little cutie as an inverted mullet–party on the outside, business on the inside. Like I mentioned before, the bag is denim (party on the outside). This is the kind of denim that you usually see in the form of great quality jeans like Lucky Brand or True Religion. Another aesthetically pleasing element of this little hand bag is how its beautiful blue denim is contrasted with its leathery, deep brown lining.     If we could all just feel as natural in our skin as the late athletically gorgeous movie star, Esther Williams; quite possibly then, success would flow causally with us throughout our lives.

Maybe it was her smile,  or her sureness of her abilities and capabilities. Perhaps it was her hard work and fortitude, changing her game plan as her gold medal dreams translated into Hollywood gold; her gold sequined one piece bathing suit with the metal crown that ultimately broke her back during a 50 foot dive.  Or it could have been the tenaciousness of her bouncing back after four marriages, and seven broken eardrums.  She looked great, took care of herself, followed her dreams and navigated her career with her talents at the helm. She never allowed her broken marriages, or broken bank accounts to take her down.  She moved ahead, rebounding with swimsuits and swimming pools.  A success, surely, professionally and personally.

“On to the next one,” says Mother Nature as Memorial Day approaches.

Though it is a day to commemorate and remember the men and women who died while serving in the US Armed forces, Memorial Day is also a day that marks the climatic commencement of Summer. This means that temperatures are rising, as is the amount of skin shown! People are substituting their dress pants and insulated leggings for cuffed jeans and short-shorts!

However, there is also a shift in colors. The sprouting of rich, green plants and the bright yellow of the sun are quickly closing the door to dark and dreary colors. Now you’ll see vivid orange shirts and sea blue skirts make their way down the streets of NYC.
