Clutch Bags: Made in USA

                                                  An American Factory

“I remember a great America where we made everything. There was a time when the only thing you got from Japan was a really bad cheap transistor radio that some aunt gave you for Christmas.” –Cher

The time when America made everything is, for most, a distant memory, and for some, it is an inexperienced history. For years, clothing, electronics, and other products have been branded with the words Made in China.  Though many American companies pride themselves on producing American products, the reality is that the production of these American ideas is really taking place in other countries—like China.  A prime example of this is the Ford Motors Company.  It is an American automobile company that promotes itself as the Great American Auto Manufacturer. However, many of its product parts are made in China, France, and Mexico and only assembled in the United States.

Yes, this manufacturing technique is cheaper and easier for the consumers’ pocketbook short-term, but it is these manufacturing methods that harm the American economy. Like China, America is filled with able-bodied, skilled and educated people who have been trained to work in factories to create products in America to be sold in America. However, the cost of American employees is higher than the cost of Chinese employees, so employers choose to go with the cheaper option. This act of choosing Chinese employees over American employees takes jobs away from the able-bodied American workers and in turn, fuels the Chinese economy while the American economy suffers. Therefore, the long-term consequences of American products made in China are actually very damaging.

As time progresses and the American economy declines, people have begun to awaken to this work-economy cycle by taking steps toward constructive reaction.  Lately, there has been an emphasis on the importance of buying products manufactured in the United States.  Slowly but surely, acts to make the American economy flourish once again are being set into motion. Nowadays there are American companies—like Carhartt and Clutch Bags NY—that only manufacture in the United States; there are electronic companies—like Apple—that have decided to start manufacturing in America again; and there are marketing agencies—like Made Movement—that only promote companies that manufacture in America.

Like Cher, Laura Dotolo remembers a great America where we made everything. According to the Clutch NY designer the shift from Made in China to Made in USA needs to happen to ensure quality consumption: “Made in the USA; it’s something I am proud of and it’s a quality that you cannot get in China. Please join me in the effort to show America that there is nothing so expensive as a cheap bag or purse that does not stand the test of time.”  Clutch NY and Laura Dotolo are bringing the dream back to NYC by offering manufacturing services to companies who would like to regain pride in their products, work staff and country, and not focus their attention so much on profit margins that lead to the escalation of dead factory workers and an abundance of land fill.

Please do join us! Buy the quality that you deserve, bring jobs back to the US, and help fuel the economy! Isn’t that worth some extra bucks?
