Is it just me or is time flying by? It seems like just yesterday I was packing my weekend bag for Winter vacation, wrapping Christmas presents, and drafting my New Year’s resolutions, and now, all of a sudden it’s the sixty-fourth day of 2013! If you, like me, are not totally sure about where all of that time went, use this post as a guideline as to what is memorable about March.

Transitioning from February to March doesn’t only mark a change of climactic and fashion seasons, but also a change of focus. Now, ladies, before you start worrying about updating your wardrobe with this Spring’s latest must-haves, remember that every Clutch Bag is versatile enough to withstand the trend of any season!

While the month of February celebrated the beauty of humanity’s products–such as fashion, film, and music– through events like The Grammy’s and Fashion Week, March celebrates the beauty of humanity itself. Through a bundle of holidays that commemorate doctors, saints, and women, this month stresses humanity’s most admirable qualities:

• The ability to understand the human body well enough to extend its longevity
• The strength to decide to be a virtuous person and stick with it
•  The courage to continuously standup for what is just, even if it might be contrary to popular belief
• And finally, the capacity to care for others

Though March is a month that emphasizes honorable traits, it also highlights traits on the opposite side of the spectrum. While March’s birthstones, aquamarine and bloodstone, symbolize bravery, it’s birth flower, the daffodil, symbolizes self-absorption. While the lazy, pessimistic, yet compassionate Pisces dominates most of March, the energetic, optimistic, yet vain Aries finishes the month off.  Needless to say, the proverb “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb” isn’t just referring to the expected changing of seasons, but also to the unexpected changing of the mind.

In this respect, the human quality that March stresses the most is rationality. This ability of ours to teeter between two opposing ideas is much like March’s teetering between the two opposing temperatures of hot and cold. However, a big difference between rationality and March is that we know by the end of the month we’ll have days filled with sunshine and warmth, while by the end of our rationalizing, we still might not have a conclusion.

What I’m trying to say is that maybe we should let our rationality follow March’s lead. Though March is characterized by different extremes, at it’s end, it promises Spring and it delivers. So, if we’ve promised to do something–like our New Year’s resolutions, for example–this is the month to follow through and do it!  Enjoy this fantastic month and make the most of it.
