Timeless Elegance

 

Wow, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly showing how timeless elegant style can be! Timeless elegance.  Now there is a goal  to strive for during a lifetime.

 

Since the beginning of my career my mantra has always been, keep it clean and keep it simple.  Create something that is timeless and not trendy, so when you look at it in 5 years, you don’t wince.

 

If I am going to design a handbag, make a pattern, source out the hardware and the leathers, fabrics, zippers, fabricate a die and have a sample made, then you bet your bottom dollar that I want this bag to have some longevity.  In the end, I will be the one looking at this handbag more than anyone, so I want to make sure that it is a handbag that is pleasing to the eye.  My goal is to design a bag that looks chic, not trendy.  Trendy, to me, is temporary.  Chic is classic and elegant and of course, timeless.

That is really the philosophy behind the designs I create at Clutch Bags.

Clutch Bags is not a huge, trendy accessory company that changes up its styles every season.  That was not the reason for creating this company.  I created this company based on what I knew from growing up with brands like Coach and LL Bean.  At the time, these companies had solid classic product.

They stocked product that was made in the USA. They sold product that was well made.  And they sold the same product for more than one season, more than one year.  Their products were seasonless and classic.

I find it to be such a shame that companies like these have felt the need in the market place to shift their business focus and branch out to include products that at times, dilute their brand; too many products, too many styles, too many designs that look like other brands.  This seems to be the recipe that jettisons a company from timeless, to sabotage.

So, in these crazy, busy, overdone times of so much going on, I enjoy keeping it simple and classic. Love, Laura Dotolo
