“The wisdom acquired with the passage of time is a useless gift unless you share it.” Esther Williams
If we could all just feel as natural in our skin as the late athletically gorgeous movie star, Esther Williams; quite possibly then, success would flow causally with us throughout our lives.
Maybe it was her smile, or her sureness of her abilities and capabilities. Perhaps it was her hard work and fortitude, changing her game plan as her gold medal dreams translated into Hollywood gold; her gold sequined one piece bathing suit with the metal crown that ultimately broke her back during a 50 foot dive. Or it could have been the tenaciousness of her bouncing back after four marriages, and seven broken eardrums. She looked great, took care of herself, followed her dreams and navigated her career with her talents at the helm. She never allowed her broken marriages, or broken bank accounts to take her down. She moved ahead, rebounding with swimsuits and swimming pools. A success, surely, professionally and personally.
So, what do we have to walk away with from this life that was led on this earth? This female example of success, beauty, stardom and talent? Perhaps it is a time to reflect on this star studded mermaid and think about the characteristics she possessed that transported her through such a fantastical life. Maybe it is a time for women to listen up and pay attention to what is being said and why. This is a great chance to note what works and what does not in life; what it takes to succeed and what obstacles you might face. It is never easy to get to where you want to go, but if you just listen to yourself and use the natural talents you have, success is waiting for you, patiently, at the door.
As a fellow female participant on this earth owning and operating my leather handbag company, Clutch Bags NY, I am looking at the cliff notes of Esther’s life and noting what I should follow. And so if I were to turn my advice to you, it would say this: forge ahead, be strong and never let a man, or money, or injuries get you down or take you down. Never allow misfortunes to navigate your future. And above all: get in touch with the mermaid within. There is something to be said about dancing in the water.
happy summer to all you mermaids !
love and kisses,
